Producing a TV show requires a camera and talent. Producing a quality TV show requires much more. In this course, we often work as a team to deliver a product to recording. The team however, does not split work evenly during each production. During the next unit, you will be asked to try a variety of TV production roles. Each time you try a job, you will have an opportunity to reflect on the difficulty or ease of that job.
In this journal entry, you will gain a perspective of the different roles by reading the module “TV Production: Overview” (http://www.cybercollege.com/tvp001.htm).
- While you read through the module, write a summary statement for five of the different jobs.
- Then write a paragraph explaining which job is most intriguing to you and why.

There are many jobs in the Media workforce that require a lot of experience. Such as the producer, writer, director, talent and the lighting director.
Producer – the producer does everything. The producer hires and casts the people that will be associated with the production. The producer also makes sure everything is running on time and is in charge of everyone.
Writer – The writer is in charge of telling people what they should do on stage and write a script for the talent to read. Writers have to come up with many ideas because they have to write the whole story.
Director – The director runs everything before the production and after the production. They work the little things that need to be fixed as well as some of the set changes and the positions on set.
Talent – the talent in the production is mostly on camera. The talent can be from acting, singing, dancing and narrating. These people put the whole production into place by reading their script and putting it all on camera.
Lighting Director – Without the lighting director, the production would be in pitch black. The Lighting director coordinates the lighting and the equipment to follow.
The job that I believe is most important is the producer. The producer hires everyone and to keep production moving. This job also has a big responsibility. If the producer hires the wrong person for the job, the production could not be successful. The producer is the big boss that is in charge of everything. From the financial, hiring, and the writing of the script. The producer I believe has the hardest job within the production.

During a play/ movie/ Show, there are many parts. The directors and producers do a lot. Sometimes they almost do everything. They must keep order during the filming, the must hire, casts, security personal, artist and other occupations too. They also write the film and give orders to the men and women creating this. Others are technical producers, lighting director, set designer, makeup person. A technical producer handles the recording of tapes, and anything else using technical equipment. They also have other people with in them; there is one working on graphics, another recording, and another editing. Those jobs are made for them. Although it seems like little jobs, the plays could not run without them. Lighting people will work with technical producers to get the best quality image by adjusting the lights. In movies when a scary part comes up the lights dim to make it darker, when it’s a happy time it brightens. Set director is the artist. They create scenery and when it’s animated they will sketch the film out on paper. They then load it onto a computer and fast forward the film. It then looks like movements as if it was real. Makeup artist are the ones backstage who make the casts look like what they are suppose to be. Star Wars needed a lot of makeup to produce a good figure. Not all costumes in that movie were masks some were actual people smothered in a paste like material and colored. All these occupations are needed to make a film function properly.
I am interested in set artist. They are the people who help the directors make up the scenery and also work with graphics and makeup people and show what they are looking for in the film. They MUST work with others to make it perfect. They look at what the writers have for the film; they then search for a good fitting prop. / background for the film. They make sure the characters look like what they are supposed to look like by showing makeup artist what they want. It is a simple but important job in a film.

There are many people required to produce a successful TV show. Some of these people are the producer, associate producer, writer, actors, director and make up person. The producer, is usually in charge of the thing your producing. He hires everyone that will be working on the set. An Associate producer is a little different he, assist the producer and sets up schedules for everyone working on the set.
The writer is the person that writes the whole play, movie, TV show, or broadcast. The writer writes all the word and actions being done and said . The actors act out the writers work for the show. They change into the role of another person. Being a director is on of the most important jobs, the director has to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
Lastly the makeup person he or she makes the actor look the way there character should. For example if they are going to a wedding the actor is going to have to look really nice, but if the actor gets into a fight he or she will not look so great.
I think it would be really fun to do hair and makeup on a set. This is because you get to make people look amazing or not so great. You can really be creative in what you do if you’re a makeup artist. Then everyone will be able to see your work even if your not on screen.

Director: This is the person who is in charge of the whole crew. They hire actors, get the budget, and decide what is going to happen and when. Everyone else listens to the director.
Writer: The writer is the person who creates the script. Everyone else goes by what the script says during the performance.
Set Director: The set director is the one who comes up with the background and the props. They make sure that the set is properly painted and decorated.
Talent: The talent is the people hired to act or speak in the performance. They follow what the script says to do. Usually there are three types of talent, the actors, performers, and announcers who either speak or appear on camera.
Lighting Director: The lighting director designs the lights, puts them in their proper places, and makes sure they are properly working throughout the performance.
The job that is the most interesting to me is the set director. I think this job is interesting because it is so important. The movie will not be the same if it does not have the correct props or scenery. Also, the atmosphere of the movie really contributes to the quality of the movie overall. It would be fun to create what you envision in your head as the perfect setting and make it real. I would enjoy painting and arranging the props to fit the movie. It is a really intriguing job because of the responsibility and creativity that comes with it.

In this essay, I will be summarizing the roles of five main people on the set: the producer, talent, technical director, lighting director, and writer.
First, the producer. The producer is one of the, if not the most important people on the set. The producer does everything; comes up with the show, handles the money, hires the other people for the other jobs, everything. Sometimes the producer will help out with the actual making of the film.
Second, the talent. This is the person that is on the camera. They read there scripts that the writer wrote and they make the show a show.
The writer tells the talent what to say on a script. This is one of the less complicated jobs.
Fourth, the technical director. He/she is responsible for operating the video switcher.
Fifth, the lighting director. The lighting director is the one that puts the lights up so that the lights are bright enough (or dark enough) for the scene that is being filmed. The lighting director also creates the lighting plan.
